OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra in early September 2026 and pitched it as its most capable model for complex work from start to finish: research, coding, computer use and documents. The launch numbers are striking. OpenAI reports 57.9% on Terminal-Bench 4.0, up from 37.3% for its previous model, GPT-5.6 Sol, and says Astra finished Financial Modeling World Cup challenges about four times faster than the winning human.

For a founder, the question isn't whether the demo impresses. It's whether handing Astra real work gives you back time and attention without creating new cleanup. A faster board deck only matters if it improves a decision. A dashboard only matters if someone opens it. This guide covers how to decide, what it costs and how to test it in a week. The copy-paste assignments are in our companion resource, The GPT-6 Astra Founder Prompt Pack.
